Banks Adding Debit Card Fees - NYTimes.com

Starting Saturday, big banks must comply with a new regulation that caps the fees they can charge merchants for processing debit card purchases. But some consumers are already seeing the impact of the change, in the form of higher fees charged on their checking accounts, as banks seek to recoup lost revenue.

Bank of America is the latest bank to say it will begin charging a monthly fee for checking accounts that use debit cards. Starting early next year, the bank will charge $5 a month, in any month that the customer uses a debit card to make a purchase. (If customers have a debit card, but don’t use it, they won’t incur the fee.) The fee won’t apply to A.T.M. transactions, and it won’t be charged to customers with certain premium accounts, a bank spokeswoman, Betty Riess, said. “The economics of offering a debit card have changed with recent regulations,” she said.

Is there any reason to stay with a big bank besides the convenience of ubiquitous ATMs?

Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light)

This video was sent through the internal email list in Kiva and donated immediately. This is such a great example of how an ingenius idea with existing resources [and hard work] can change lives for the better...wayy better.

Please visit their website and do the same! http://isanglitrongliwanag.org/

I remember seeing a video on this a few months back and I'm still pretty amazed at how this ingenius method is helping families in the Philippines.

It's easy to forget the luxuries we take for granted all around us. Now there's an easy way to donate to the foundation behind making sure that no family has to live in the dark in the Philippines, and hopefully, everywhere.

Eric + Indira | Wedding Highlights Video

Another wedding highlights video by me and Francis. Eric and Indira were a fun couple to work with. They were extremely down to earth and they had one of the best receptions I've seen with a Spanish themed night.

An interesting fact is that this was the first wedding where we had the opportunity to shoot alongside Ed Pingol, a photographer I've looked up to since even before I started doing event coverage.

Hope you enjoy the video!

What else is new at Posterous? All the marketing! - Sachin's Space

Great wrap up by Sachin on all the new marketing behind the Posterous Spaces launch!

You always hear that when you work at a startup you have to wear many hats; I found myself doing everything and anything to help with the launch efforts (aside from marketing tasks). It's very rewarding to see some of my fingerprints on the designs of several pages and concepts :)

There's a been a lot of success around this launch but we didn't work this hard to stop continuing our passion for building the easiest way platform to share.

This is only the tip of the iceberg, and we're listening to every piece of feedback. Expect much more to come, and happy sharing!

We have a lounge and table at TechCrunch Disrupt so if any of you Posterous Spaces users are attending, be sure to stop by to get the best shirts and totes in the conference!
